Instructional video on how to use Natural Espresso Grinder Cleaner
Espresso grinder cleaning - step by step
- Remove and empty the bean container.
- Grind all the remaining beans in the shaft, we use our measuring cup for this. (If necessary, put the bean container back on because some mills won't grind otherwise).
- Add a level tablespoon of cleaning powder to the bean shaft . Yes, many manufacturers write significantly more. But they also want to sell their cleaning powder. We think a tablespoon is enough. In the case of our cleaning powder, this is 10 to 15 grams .
- Grind out the cleaning powder.
- Put the bean container back on.
- Grind a portion of coffee to remove all traces of the cleaning powder.
Particles of the cleaner may still appear during the first grinding processes, but this does not affect the taste of the espresso, but the oily and possibly rancid coffee fats that have been removed no longer interfere with the enjoyment of the cappuccino or espresso.
If you want to go deeper into the topic, we have also written a detailed blog post about it.
Rice as an alternative to cleaning the coffee grinder?
This may have been a good method for old hand mills from grandmother's times.
However, today's electronic espresso grinders generally don't like rice. Often the use of rice results in the mill blocking. In some cases the blockage can be solved by a generous amount of roughening, but sometimes only a time-consuming disassembly helps.
Accordingly, we advise against using rice.
How do I clean a hand mill ?
We regularly receive the question of how best to clean a hand coffee grinder. We recommend dismantling the hand mill first. Hand mills are usually very easy to dismantle. To do this, turn the screw to adjust the grinding level in the coarse direction until it loosens. Then carefully remove the individual parts , ideally in the correct order (this makes assembly easier).
A brush is then used. This is done by blowing out regularly. Complete.
Natural Grind or another grinder cleaner is not required .
