BRITA test kit for measuring water hardness

Please note: A different test kit is used in the video, but the process is identical.

• Only use 5 ml of water in the test container for the BRITA test kit.
• The color change may differ from the video:
  • Total hardness: Red → Green
  • Carbonate hardness: Violet → Yellow

Product features:

• Measurement functions: Determination of total hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (alkalinity)
• Purpose of measurement: Basis for selecting the optimal BRITA filter unit
• Measurement note: Only use 5 ml of water for the measurement
• Restriction after filter installation: Carbonate hardness measurements are not reliable during the first approx. 15% of the filter capacity because the filter releases so-called potassium buffering for pH stabilization. This ensures the retention of hydrogen carbonate and thus a measured carbonate hardness that does not actually exist anymore.

Why do we sell the Brita test kit?

The reason is obvious. We want to enable the best possible coffee enjoyment, regardless of your location and local water quality. Furthermore, the thoughtless use of plain tap water can lead to premature limescale build-up or even more serious damage to your portafilter machine. With this test kit, you can test your water quality quickly and easily. The result allows you to quickly determine whether a water filter is necessary and, if so, which one.

What do I do with the test result?

Simply send us a short email to hallo@kaffeemacher.ch with the following information:

• Test result (carbonate hardness and total hardness)
• Estimated annual water consumption or
• Number of cups of coffee you drink per day including the ml amount per cup
