BRITA test kit for measuring water hardness
BRITA test kit for measuring water hardness
Coffee beverages consist of up to 99% water. Water is crucial for the coffee flavor and the durability of the portafilter machine or other equipment used.
Video tutorial
Please note: The video uses a different test kit, but the procedure is identical.
- For the BRITA test kit, only use 5 ml of water in the test container.
- Color change may differ from the video:
- Total hardness: Red → Green
- Carbonate hardness: Violet → Yellow
Product features of the Brita test kit
- Measuring functions : Determination of total hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (alkalinity)
- What the measurement is used for : Basis for selecting the optimal BRITA filter unit
- Measurement note : Use only 5 ml of water for the measurement
- Limitations after filter installation: Carbonate hardness measurements are not meaningful in the first approximately 15% of filter capacity, as the filter releases a so-called potassium buffer to stabilize the pH. This ensures the retention of bicarbonate and thus a measured carbonate hardness, which, however, no longer exists in reality.
Why do we sell the Brita test kit?
The reason for this is obvious. We want to provide the best possible coffee experience, regardless of where you live or the local water quality. Furthermore, the careless use of plain tap water can lead to premature limescale buildup or even more serious damage to your portafilter machine. This test kit allows you to quickly and easily test your water quality. The results will quickly determine whether a water filter is necessary, and if so, which type.
What do I do with the test result?
Just send us a short email to info@kaffeemacher.ch with the following information:
- Test result (carbon hardness and total hardness)
- Estimated annual water consumption or
- Number of cups of coffee you drink per day including ml per cup
We'll be happy to help you choose the right filter for your situation.
