Hario V60 Dripper 02 - New Glass Design
The Hario V60 is arguably the most widely used manual pour-over dripper in the coffee universe — and for good reason. With its user-friendly handling and the ability to create the perfect cup of coffee through endless experimentation, it is an indispensable tool for coffee lovers. We, along with many other roasteries, offer tried-and-tested standard recipes for the V60, making brewing quite straightforward.
Product features:
- Material: The dripper is made entirely of glass, while the base is crafted from sturdy plastic. We also offer the Hario V60 in plastic in size 02.
- Ideal for coffee amounts of 15 to 30 grams: The V60 is particularly well-suited for brewing coffee amounts between 15 and 30 grams of ground coffee.
- Practical use: The base allows the dripper to be placed directly onto a cup or a suitable carafe, such as the glass carafe from Trendglas Jena. The clever design ensures that air can escape at all times, which is not the case with many other drippers, like the Chemex, where it can impede water drainage.
- Conical shape: With a unique 60-degree conical shape, the V60 creates a deeper coffee bed. This allows for more even extraction with smaller amounts of coffee compared to cylindrical drippers.
- Built-in drainage ribs: These ribs on the side of the dripper promote the lateral flow of brewing water and catch fines (tiny coffee particles), making clogging of the filter unlikely.
- Dishwasher safe: The manual dripper is easy to clean and dishwasher safe.
- Heat resistant: The plastic and glass used are heat-resistant up to 120 degrees Celsius.
- Versatile filter papers: A wide variety of different filter papers from various manufacturers offers plenty of room for experimentation.
Brewing temperature and recommendations
The glass V60 is thermally stable but absorbs a lot of heat from the brewing water. Therefore, we recommend a high brewing temperature of 96 to 99 degrees for preparing filter coffee. For darker roasts, lower temperatures should be used.
Standard recipe with the glass V60 for filter coffee
- Fold the paper filter along the seam and place it into the V60.
- Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and to preheat it.
- Grind 15-30g of coffee (grind size similar to cane sugar) and calculate the water amount using a 1:16 ratio. Example: 15 grams of coffee * 16 = 240 ml Benjamin's standard recipe uses 18 grams with 300 ml of water, i.e., 6 grams of ground coffee per 100 ml of water.
- Put the coffee into the filter and place it on a scale.
- Fully saturate the coffee grounds (using 18g of coffee, use approx. 50-60g of hot water at 98 degrees).
- Swirl the dripper to ensure the grounds are evenly moistened.
- After about 30 - 40 seconds, pour in a circular motion, starting from the center, until about half the total amount of water (e.g., 150 ml) has been poured.
- Once most of the water has drained, pour the remaining water in a circular motion. Finally, swirl once more to release any coffee grounds stuck to the sides of the dripper.
- After 2:10 to 2:50 minutes, the coffee should have finished dripping through (for 18 grams of coffee grounds).
