Replacing the shower screen
The shower screen can be replaced in just a few steps:
- Preparation: It is best to do this while the brew group is heated to soften the rubber gasket.
- Removal: Use a screen remover, to find the edge of the old shower screen and pry it out. Alternatively, a teaspoon or a blind filter can be used (do not use sharp tools).
- Installation: Insert the new IMS screen into the rubber gasket (pay attention to the orientation). Remove the filter basket from the portafilter and place the shower screen, including the rubber gasket, inside. Carefully lock the portafilter into place and repeat the process.
Why do we sell the IMS shower screen?
We believe that you can make great coffee with many different machines. However, to get the absolute maximum out of every machine, small adjustments are sometimes needed. Standard factory-installed shower screens often do not distribute brewing water evenly over the coffee grounds. This can lead to uneven extraction and even channeling. That is why it is often worth using a different shower screen. Thanks to the arrangement of the holes, the IMS shower screen distributes the water much more evenly over the coffee grounds. This further improves the result in the cup.

What makes a good espresso?
What defines a good espresso or espresso-based drink is always subjective. Some like strong espressos with low acidity, while others prefer fruity espressos. However, these two extremes are largely due to the choice of green coffee and the roast profile.
When extracting from roasted beans, everyone wants to get the optimum result. However, this is influenced by many factors, such as water, extraction time, brew ratio, brewing temperature, grind consistency, etc. A good espresso is therefore a puzzle made of many pieces. With so many factors influencing the result in the cup, errors can of course occur. You can see a video about this from Benjamin and Michel here:
