IMS Competition shower strainer E61 - 60mm
IMS Competition shower strainer E61 - 60mm
The IMS Competition screen makes extraction even more even. The arrangement of the holes and the fine metal mesh cover distribute the brewing water very evenly over the coffee grounds. The more even the espresso extraction, the better the espresso. Cheaper screens, often included with espresso machines, tend to not distribute the water well, with the bulk of the water being dispensed in the center of the screen. This screen is installed in almost all of our Academy machines.

Conversion of the shower screen
The shower screen can be converted in just a few steps:
- Preparation: Best done with the brewing group heated to soften the rubber seal.
- Disassembly: Use a strainer remover to locate the edge of the old shower strainer and pry it out. Alternatively, you can use a teaspoon or a blind strainer (no sharp tools).
- Assembly: Insert the new IMS strainer into the rubber seal (note the direction). Remove the brewing strainer from the portafilter and insert the shower strainer, including the rubber seal. Carefully clamp the portafilter into place and repeat the process.
Why do we sell the IMS shower screen?
We believe that you can make excellent coffee with many different machines. However, getting the most out of each machine sometimes requires small adjustments. Standard shower screens often don't distribute the brewing water evenly over the coffee grounds. This can lead to uneven extraction and even channeling. Therefore, it's often worth using a different shower screen. The IMS shower screen distributes the water much more evenly over the coffee grounds thanks to the arrangement of the holes. This further improves the result in the cup.

What makes a good espresso?
What constitutes a good espresso or espresso-based beverage is always subjective. Some prefer strong, low-acid espressos, while others prefer fruity espressos. However, these two extremes are largely due to the raw coffee selection and roasting.
Everyone wants to achieve the best possible extraction from roasted beans. However, this is influenced by many factors, such as water, extraction time, brewing ratio, brewing temperature, grinding quality, etc. A good espresso is therefore a puzzle with many pieces. With so many factors influencing the final result in the cup, mistakes can naturally occur. Here's a video from Benjamin and Michel:
