IMS Competition shower strainer E61, 60mm
IMS Competition shower strainer E61 - 60mm
With the IMS Competition shower sieve the extraction is even more even. Due to the arrangement of the holes and the covering with fine metal mesh, the brewing water is distributed very evenly over the ground coffee. The more consistent the espresso extraction, the better the espresso. Cheaper strainers, which often come with espresso machines, tend not to distribute water well and dispense the bulk of the water in the center of the shower. This shower strainer is installed in almost all of our academy machines.

Remodeling the shower screen
Converting the shower screen can be done in just a few steps. The shower strainer on a Faema E61 brewing group is only clamped with a rubber sealing ring. The conversion is easiest when the brewing group is heated, as the rubber seal is softer. To remove the old shower screen, use a screen remover , find the edge of the old shower screen and then lever the screen out. Alternatively, you can use a teaspoon or a blind sieve to pry it out.
To install the new shower strainer, the new IMS strainer must be inserted into the rubber seal. Now the brewing sieve should be removed from a portafilter and the shower sieve including the rubber seal should be inserted. Then carefully clamp the portafilter so that the new shower sieve is placed in the brewing group. Then unclamp the portafilter again and clamp it again with the brewing sieve.
Why do we sell the IMS shower strainer?
We believe that you can make very good coffee with many different machines. But in order to get the most out of every machine, small adjustments are sometimes necessary. Shower sieves installed as standard often do not distribute the brewing water evenly over the ground coffee. This can lead to uneven extractions and even channeling. That's why it's often worth using a different shower screen. The IMS shower strainer distributes the water much more evenly over the ground coffee thanks to the arrangement of the holes. This improves the result in the cup even further.

What makes good espresso?
What constitutes a good espresso or espresso-based drinks is always subjective. Some like strong espressos with little acid and others prefer fruity espressos. However, these two extremes are largely due to green coffee selection and roasting.
Everyone wants to get the most out of the extraction of the roasted beans. However, this is influenced by many factors, such as: water, extraction time, brewing ratio, brewing temperature, grinding result, etc. A good espresso is therefore a puzzle made up of many pieces. With so many factors influencing the result in the cup, errors can of course occur. You can see a video from Benjamin and Michel here:
