The Hario V60 is arguably the most widely used hand filter in the coffee world, and rightly so. It's easy to use yet offers plenty of opportunities for experimentation. A practical feature of the V60 is that we and many other roasters offer recipes for their coffees using the V60. So, rebrewing is pretty easy.

The V60 is particularly suitable for coffee quantities between 15 and 30 grams of coffee powder – i.e. 1-4 cups of coffee.

Product features:

  • Material: Plastic – also available in a glass version.
  • Size: Filter size 02, ideal for 1–4 cups of coffee (15–30 g of ground coffee).
  • Design: With a base for easy placement on cups or carafes, like the glass carafe from Trendglas Jena.
  • Travel companion: Lightweight and compact, perfect for home and on the go.
  • Conical shape: The 60-degree angle ensures a deeper coffee bed and more even extraction, even with smaller amounts (up to 30 g of coffee).
  • Drainage ribs: Prevent the filter from clogging and ensure efficient water flow.
  • Dishwasher safe: Heat-resistant up to 120 degrees Celsius.

Standard recipe for filter coffee with the glass V60

  1. Fold the paper filter at the seam and place it in the V60.
  2. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove the papery taste and preheat it.
  3. Grind 15-30 g of coffee (grind size similar to cane sugar) and calculate the amount of water using a 1:16 ratio. Example: 15 grams of coffee * 16 = 240 ml Benjamin's standard brew is 18 grams with 300 ml of water, i.e., 6 grams of coffee per 100 ml of water.
  4. Add the ground coffee to the filter and place it on a scale.
  5. Completely saturate the coffee grounds with approx. 50-60 g of hot water (98 degrees Celsius) using 18 g of coffee.
  6. Swirl the filter to ensure the coffee grounds are evenly saturated.
  7. After approx. 30–40 seconds, start pouring in a circular motion, beginning from the center, until about half of the total water (e.g., 150 ml) has been added.
  8. Once most of the water has drained through, pour the remaining amount of water in a circular motion. Finally, swirl once more so that the coffee grounds come off the side walls of the filter.
  9. The coffee should be done dripping after 2:10 to 2:50 minutes (with 18 grams of coffee grounds).

We have published a detailed guide on preparing filter coffee here.

Why do we sell the Hario V60 02?

Many of us on the team are avid filter coffee drinkers and use the Hario V60 intensively, both at home and in our academy. We like the construction, the simplicity, the robustness, and above all, the result in the cup. The V60 allows you to really play with the spectrum of filter coffee. The V60 brews balanced coffees that have good body and sweetness on the one hand, and well-integrated acidity on the other.
