Why Do We Sell This Tamping Mat?
We particularly like the 90° angle on the front of the tamping mat. This supports the grip of the non-slip mat and closes a typical problem area — the front edge of tables or work surfaces. With classic tamping mats, the table is only protected from above. However, tamping always happens at the edge. This quickly leads to many dents on the work surface.

What Makes Good Tamping?
"Tamping" refers to pressing the coffee grounds in the portafilter. The pressure of approximately 8 - 15 kg compacts the coffee grounds in the portafilter.
For good tamping to be possible at all, the preparation of the grounds in the basket is crucial. If air bubbles are trapped or if coffee grounds are compressed more in some places, the resistance of the coffee cake to water changes.
A good espresso extraction is enabled by even resistance. Lower resistance leads to faster water flow and correspondingly uneven extraction. In the worst case, channeling occurs. With this channel formation, the brewing water flows much faster in some places and over-extraction takes place.
