A great man retires – Michel Aeschbacher

A great barista is leaving the championship stage! For over four years, he hasn't missed a Swiss Barista final. With wit, passion, and meticulousness, he always delivered perfectly!

Michel is certainly one of the best in his field. Reason enough to look back and revisit some special moments. In 2013, a young chef appeared on the championship stage. At that time, he had started as an external sales representative for a larger roastery about a year earlier.

External sales representative? Yes, that's Michel Aeschbacher. And probably one of the best out there for coffee. Hardly anyone is as successful as him.

How does that happen? This young man's secret recipe isn't really a recipe but... authenticity.

And: Michel is perhaps the most enthusiastic person I know! When he takes on a topic, a cause, an idea – he does so with fire and passion.

Michel's passion is unparalleled. Four times in recent years, Michel told me about his planned championship presentations, and each time with such unrestrained joy, enthusiasm, and conviction that I would have wanted to fill out the score-sheet with sixes and give it back.

In 2013, Michel came 5th in his debut. In 2014, only Nina Rimpl narrowly edged him out. His Aeropress-Shisha show remains unforgettable. The narrative tension of that presentation is unparalleled.

In 2015, Emi Fukahori and Felix Hohlmann battled it out at the top, and Michel came 3rd with a top-class field behind him. His performance and technical perfection earned him the highest score ever given at a Swiss championship from the judges.

    Technically – the best!
