He finally did it! In his sixth attempt, Felix Hohlmann is crowned Barista Champion at the German Barista Championship in Bremen. And that's not all. David Wistorf also secured the runner-up title in the German Brewers Cup.
The German SCA Coffee Championships in the disciplines of Barista, Latte Art, and Brewers Cup took place in Bremen from February 25th to 27th at the Gastro Invent trade fair. Our team sent two participants: Felix Hohlmann (Barista) and David Wistorf (Brewers Cup).
Felix Hohlmann wins the Barista Championship
With a confident performance, Felix Hohlmann won the German Barista Championship using a coffee from Colombia and another from Nicaragua. This qualifies him for the World Championship, which will take place at the beginning of May in Busan, Korea.
Following in second and third place were Anja Fürst and Osama Shammo.
For his espresso, Felix used a coffee from Colombia. The coffee was grown by Jorge Elias Rojas Vasques at Finca La Roca. It is a Red Gesha, and the coffee was pulped and anaerobically fermented. Felix also used this coffee to prepare his signature drink.
For the milk-based beverages, a coffee from Dona Maria Eugenia was used. The coffee comes from the Monsonte region in northern Nicaragua and is a Bourbon Tekisic, which was also anaerobically fermented.
David Wistorf becomes German Brewers Cup Runner-up
David Wistorf showed an incredibly strong performance in the German Brewers Cup. Using the same coffee that Felix used for his espresso, David brewed his way to second place in the filter coffee brewing competition. 1st place went to Luthfan Satrio Pradipto, and 3rd place went to Jason Darien Riadi.
David is the co-manager of our shop, works as an accountant, and is involved in quality control. He also teaches our filter coffee courses.
He pours his great passion into our filter coffee subscription. Every month, he presents a filter coffee in a live stream and selects the most interesting coffees for the Adventure Filter Coffee Subscription.
