Home Barista Course Level 1 - Introduction
Experience the Barista Craft in Dinslaken: Your Barista Course in the Ruhr Area
In our Kaffeemacher Academy on the edge of the Ruhr area (NRW), everything revolves around hands-on practice with the portafilter machine. In this barista course for beginners, you'll learn the craft from scratch: We'll adjust the coffee grinder together, optimize espresso extraction, and practice proper milk frothing for the perfect cappuccino.
You have the choice: bring your own espresso machine and grinder to the workshop to perfectly calibrate your home setup, or work with our professional equipment on-site in Dinslaken. Practical theoretical units and an introduction to the world of Latte Art complete this barista seminar. You'll not only learn how to make the perfect espresso but also understand the technology behind it.

Home Barista – Level 1: Your Foundation for Perfect Espresso
Bring the café feeling home! In our basic course, everything revolves around the craft of the portafilter machine. Whether you bring your own equipment or learn on our machines, we'll show you how to get the full potential out of every bean.
What to expect in practice:
Precision at the grinder: Learn to perfectly adjust the grind size.
Extraction: Together we master the correct beverage ratio for the perfect espresso.
Milk Craft: Dive into the world of perfect milk foam for creamy cappuccinos and first attempts at Latte Art.
Your workstation: All tools and accessories are ready for you at your pre-prepared barista station.
Knowledge that goes deeper: Coffee is a complex natural product – together we'll look behind the scenes:
Bean Knowledge & Varieties: We discuss the details and peculiarities of the most important and widespread coffee varieties. This way, you'll understand what role genetics plays in the taste.
Roasting Theory & Philosophy: We'll theoretically examine what changes in the taste of the bean during the roasting process and what different roasting philosophies exist (and how these influence your result in the cup).
The Element of Water: An often underestimated factor! We discuss why water quality decides between success and failure in the cup.
Freshness & Quality: You'll learn how to recognize truly fresh coffee and how to correctly interpret the information on the packaging.
Sensory (Cupping): In a joint tasting of coffees from all over the world, we'll sharpen your senses so you know exactly what you really like.
The Tech Check (Exclusive to us): We don't leave you alone with your tech. We check the offset setting (temperature) of your brought machine with you and, if possible, adjust it directly so that your home setup is perfectly calibrated.
Do I need to be a professional already?
Not at all! For the Home Barista Level 1 course, you don't need any prior knowledge. We'll meet you exactly where you are and guide you step-by-step into the world of espresso.
Your equipment or ours?
You have the choice: Feel free to bring your own machine or grinder to get the most out of your home setup. If you don't have your own equipment (yet) or just want to try something new, we'll provide everything for you at the academy. All tools and materials will be ready for you at your prepared barista station, so you can fully concentrate on the craft.
