The coffee world has been turned upside down since the COVID-19 pandemic. Delivery delays, high coffee prices, challenges for producers, traders, and roasters. On top of that, frost and drought in Brazil – nothing is as it was just a short while ago. This podcast aims to be a compass for everyone in the coffee industry to navigate through the coming months.
In this episode: Katharina Gerasch, independent coffee consultant
In this special edition of our Kaffeemacher podcast, I talk to people who analyze the current situation, clarify questions, and ask important new questions. Everyone who works with coffee in some form is already feeling the changes, or will certainly feel them within a few weeks.
Every Sunday evening we release a new episode of Coffea Economica. In this episode I talk to Katharina Gerasch.
Katharina Gerasch, Coffee Consultant
The conversation with Philipp Schallberger mainly focuses on the challenges facing roasters these days. Katharina Gerasch comments on the current situation as follows:
- "If necessary, roasters have to cut back. My experience shows that roasters are always broadening their offerings. Now roasters have the chance to rethink their portfolio."
- "Sometimes it's also legitimate to consider whether I want to use a lower quality in a blend."
- "Be careful not to fall into a general mode of change. It's about precisely asking what needs to be changed now and why. Don't just rush into things."
Next episode: 9.1.2022 with Robert Heuveldop, List & Beisler
