Together with Gerrit Vorhoff from Carbotech AG , a consulting company for environmental calculations, we have created a CO2 calculator for coffee roasters .
Tobias Milz, our in-house CO2 expert, worked intensively with Gerrit to calculate the environmental footprint of our coffee roastery. The result is a CO2 calculator, which we have now made available online and would like to encourage roasters to calculate their own footprint.
Most emissions occur where we aren't daily: in coffee production. Therefore, those who invest in sustainable production conditions have a significant leverage to make coffee more environmentally friendly.
But a roastery is where it is; it's stationary and needs gas, shipping boxes, packaging material. You might even arrange flights to coffee-producing countries, and your employees might drive to work.
So, what can we as coffee roasters improve where we are, with what we have, or perhaps even over-do? In this conversation, Gerrit and Tobi describe how to create a CO2 calculator, that CO2 is only one part of an environmental analysis, and why we can't produce products in a climate-neutral way.

Coffee is part of climate change . We can all help decide whether it's more of a part of the solution or a part of the problem.
