What consequences does climate change have for coffee production, for people, for the beverage, and indeed for the entire industry?
Chahan Yeretzian has been researching coffee for 20 years. He established the Coffee Excellence Center at the University of Applied Sciences Zurich (ZHaW) in Wädenswil, and at the Specialty Coffee Association, he helps determine the areas in which coffee research should focus.
We talk about lab-grown coffee, underfunded coffee research in cultivation, and overheated markets for innovations at the end of the chain. Chahan takes a close look, questioning things that many coffee people take for granted. The coffee of the future may come partly from the lab, but it shouldn't be technology-blind – 45 minutes with the coffee professor on the future of coffee.
Coffee is part of climate change . We can all help decide whether it's more of a part of the solution or a part of the problem.
