BRITA test kit for measuring water hardness
Video Instructions:
Please note: A different test kit is used in the video, but the procedure is identical.
- For the BRITA test kit, use only 5 ml of water in the test tube.
- Color change may differ from the video:
- Total hardness: Red → Green
- Carbonate hardness: Violet → Yellow
Product Features:
- Measurement functions: Determination of total hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (alkalinity)
- Purpose of measurement: Basis for selecting the optimal BRITA filter unit
- Measurement note: Use only 5 ml of water for the measurement
- Restriction after filter installation: Carbonate hardness measurements in the first approx. 15% of the filter capacity are not meaningful, as the filter releases a so-called potassium buffer for pH stabilization. This ensures the preservation of bicarbonate and thus a measured carbonate hardness, which, however, no longer actually exists.
Why do we sell the Brita Test Kit?
The reason for this is obvious. We want to enable the best possible coffee enjoyment, regardless of location and local water quality. In addition, an thoughtless use of simple tap water can lead to premature scaling or even more severe damage to the portafilter machine. With this test kit, you can quickly and easily test your water quality. The result quickly shows whether a water filter is necessary and, if so, which one.
What do I do with the test result?
Simply send us a short email to hallo@kaffeemacher.ch with the following information:
- Test result (carbonate hardness and total hardness)
- Estimated annual water consumption or
- Number of cups of coffee you drink per day including ml per cup
We will gladly help you choose the right filter for your situation.
