What are the consequences of climate change for coffee production, for people, for the beverage, and indeed for the entire industry?
In January 2022, a team led by Roman Grüter from ZHaW published a study that was quickly picked up by the coffee world:
Expected global suitability of coffee, cashew and avocado due to climate change.
The study shows on maps where coffee, avocados, and cashews will be more or less suitable under various temperature increase scenarios.
In conversation with Philipp Schallberger, Roman Grüter explains how the research group arrived at their results, what his interpretation of the results is, and how he deals with the responsibility as a scientist when making predictions.
It is best to look at the maps in the paper before listening to the short podcast. The paper is freely accessible.

Coffee is part of climate change. We can all influence whether it is more part of the solution or part of the problem.
