Coffea Futurica Podcast: Roasters United - Alex Urban und Nadine Heymann

How can cafes and roasters change the coffee world?

Roasters United is an association of smaller roasters that purchase green coffee together. They are organized as a cooperative, and members take on specific tasks for their various core activities. This year, they purchased 20 shipping containers of green coffee from 10 countries, from 13 cooperatives. That's almost 300,000 kg of green coffee, sourced directly, fairly, and organically.

With Roasters United, even small roasters, and even cafés, can take responsibility and have a direct impact on coffee production. Coffees are contracted early and pre-financed with 60%. This model should be a school of thought because it demonstrates that together, more is possible.

I spoke with Alex and Nadine about their "socializing cup quality" approach. In short: it's almost too good to be true. But hear for yourself.

Coffee is part of climate change . We can all help decide whether it's more of a part of the solution or a part of the problem.
