What consequences does climate change have for coffee production, for people, for the beverage, and for the entire industry?
NGOs have been highlighting the critical issues for years. And that's a good thing, especially now, when all companies are trying to appear green and conscious, we need those who consistently ask the same questions and strive for real change.
Melanie Rutten-Sülz is the Managing Director of Solidaridad Germany, co-founded the 4C Voluntary Standard in the early 2000s, and is familiar with negotiations between multinational corporations, institutions, and small-scale producers. She has many stories to tell, has seen a lot, done a lot, and supported a lot.
And when someone like her, who has been working in coffee sustainability for more than 20 years, says that not as much is happening as we would like, then that is a clear wake-up call to become active.
Coffee is part of climate change. We can all decide whether it is more part of the solution or part of the problem.
