Coffee has a reputation from the past of being unhealthy. However, there is actually quite a bit of evidence suggesting that coffee is healthy. Yes, there are components in coffee that are carcinogenic in isolation. These are called furan and acrylamide, and they are formed during the roasting process. However, this has not been proven for coffee itself. In fact, the issue is likely more that for some people, coffee is a companion to smoking.
Beyond its energizing effect, it is also worth noting the high antioxidant content. A study also demonstrates that coffee has a preventive effect on type 2 diabetes. But hear for yourself what Prof. Chahan Yeretzian has to say about it.
Professor Yeretzian conducts research on coffee at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in Wädenswil. He is a professor of analytical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, and diagnostics. Chahan Yeretzian is the founder of the Coffee Excellence Center and started the first postgraduate program on the topic of coffee as a CAS at ZHAW.
