Between two worlds: Our Cascara tea made from coffee cherries

Cascara combines the best qualities of tea and coffee: the fruity taste of tea and the caffeine effect of coffee. This way, you experience the usual energy of coffee while also enjoying a refreshing change in your everyday life.

Our Cascara tea is part of a limited production that is only available in small quantities.

What is Cascara?

Cascara refers to the dried pulp of the coffee cherry that surrounds the coffee bean. In coffee production, this pulp is often considered a waste product, but for cascara, it is carefully dried and processed into an aromatic tea.

In traditional growing regions such as Yemen, Bolivia and Panama, tea made from coffee cherries has a long tradition and is often refined with spices such as cinnamon, ginger and cardamom.

Sustainability and local value creation

A distinctive feature of cascara is its sustainable use : the pulp of the coffee cherry, otherwise considered a waste product, is reused, thus conserving valuable resources. This method not only contributes to environmental protection but also increases the value of the coffee cherry throughout the entire production chain.

Our Cascara coffee cherry tea comes from our partner farm Brida Azul in Nicaragua : For the first time, they dried the coffee cherries especially for us, creating a fruity and aromatic infusion with natural sweetness.

The legal status of Cascara in the EU

Cascara has been classified as a "novel food" in the EU, meaning it had to undergo a safety assessment before it could be approved for sale.

The confusion that there was a "ban" on cascara in 2017 likely stems from the fact that the product wasn't officially approved at that time. It wasn't banned, but the approval process hadn't been completed, which meant it wasn't allowed to be sold freely. Only with the final approval in 2022 was cascara allowed to be sold as a food product in the EU.

Preparation of Cascara tea

The preparation of Cascara is very simple and similar to that of a fruity tea :

  1. Pour 10 g of cascara with 500 ml of boiling water ( optimal infusion temperature: 95 degrees) .
  2. Let it steep for 10 minutes.

Why Cascara is the right choice for you

  • Sugar-free: Natural sweetness with no added sugar – ideal for anyone looking for a sugar-free alternative.
  • Sustainability: Reusing coffee cherry pulp avoids waste and protects the environment.
  • Gentle caffeine kick: The blend of coffee and tea provides a gentle caffeine hit, perfect for those who enjoy the energy boost of coffee but want to reduce their daily coffee consumption.
  • A variety of flavors: Fruity aromas of honey, lemon, cherry, and rosehip. A diverse taste experience that will surprise you again and again.
