Now, what we've been preparing for ten months is about to begin. Under the leadership of Jael Lützelschwab, we're establishing a new workspace that aims to make access to coffee knowledge and coffee as a field of work more accessible. We're focusing on several key areas.
- Training as a coffee specialist
- including jobs in our own company
- More accessible coffee knowledge online and in our courses
Training as a coffee specialist
Together with Café Einzigartig and the Wydehöfli residential home in Arlesheim, we are conducting a six-month pilot coffee training course for people with special needs. The goal is to provide trainees with comprehensive, holistic, theoretical, and practical knowledge of coffee and train them to become baristas. The pilot phase of the training will take place with a closed group and will be evaluated after six months with the relevant people. Participants from the Wydehöfli residential home will participate in the pilot phase. The course will then be open to the public and offered regularly.
Completion of the training lays the foundation for employment in the hospitality industry. In cooperation with various partner institutions, we support entry and placement.
The course is led by our barista trainer Jael Lützelschwab and social worker Claudia Glaser.
The pilot project is financed by the coffee makers and the Wydehöfli.
Update: In the meantime, the training has been completed and the Baz reported .
Inclusive jobs in our company
As a company, we have embarked on a process in which we, in all working groups, are examining where we can create inclusive workplaces. We have visited various companies and projects that are doing exemplary work in this area, such as the Tanne restaurant in Schaffhausen . We want to learn from this and reorganize our work in the roastery, the catering department, and other areas.
We've been hesitant about new restaurant projects recently. Now we've decided to open a new café, which will have a strongly inclusive character from the very beginning. That's still a long way off, and we'll share more about it later.
More accessible coffee knowledge
Our coffee courses are occasionally attended by people with visual or hearing impairments. In these courses, we've learned a lot about how to communicate better, more clearly, more slowly, or more structured. We know that our YouTube videos are watched by at least one person who hears the content rather than sees it. This person has asked us to describe the texture of materials in more detail.
We've decided to become more aware of all our content and to develop some videos and courses that specifically break down barriers. We have some ideas for this and are open to ideas and collaborations.
A first step is that we will consistently publish all future videos with clear subtitles in German.
A further step is that with Jael Lützelschwab we now have a contact person on our team who works for us to reflect on ourselves and work on improving ourselves.

Jael has years of experience as a barista in our cafés, has competed successfully in coffee championships, and is part of our culinary management team. Most recently, she set up our shop in Switzerland as co-manager.
