Timemore Chestnut Slim 3 hand mill
Timemore Chestnut Slim 3 hand mill
Slim, stylish, and powerful hand grinder suitable for espresso and filter coffee . Based on the proven Timemore Slim Plus, improved with Timemore's latest generation of grinders.
Product features Timemore Slim 3
- The grinding level settings are suitable for filter coffee and espresso (and all other preparation methods) .
- The aluminum housing was made from a single piece, including the axle mount inside.
- The ribbed surface ensures a firm grip.
- The Slim 3 uses a new Grinder from Timemore , which allows even finer grinding levels compared to the E&B grinder from Timemore and so special expanded the range of applications in the espresso sector.
- The crank is removable. The magnetic walnut knob can also be removed from the crank, making the mill very compact for transport.
- The Grinding speed for 18g roasted APAS espresso beans , with a grind setting of 8.5 clicks, is approximately 4-5 seconds . This requires approximately 100 crank revolutions.
- The Grinding speed for 15 g filter coffee Beans, with a grinding setting of 18 clicks, is approximately 20 seconds . This requires approximately 55 revolutions, depending on the coffee used.
- The Capacity The capacity of the bean depends on the density and roast of the coffee. For example, it holds 25g of roasted APAS Espresso Beans ( Apas is a medium roast). With a light Filter roast (Yellow Bourbon) from Brazil is up to 27g.
- The grinding container also holds 27g. That's enough for 450ml of coffee or a double espresso.
- The weight of the mill is 440g.
- The dimensions are: 17.5 cm in height and 4.4 cm in diameter.
- Due to its slim design, the Slim 3 fits into an Aero Press and is therefore also suitable ideal as a travel companion .

Our recommendations differ from the Timemore manual. The reason for this is that, as with all products, we test and experiment ourselves. For our tests, we use two to three different espresso roasts, ranging from our own APAS to roasts from retail discounters.

How do I adjust the grind size on the Timemore Slim 3?
- First, the mill must be unscrewed.
- Now set the click wheel to "0" by turning the click wheel clockwise until it stops.
- The click wheel is then turned the desired number of clicks (counterclockwise) to find the correct grind size for the desired preparation method or portafilter machine.
- In our test, we achieved a good result for filter coffee at 25 clicks and for espresso at 8.5 clicks.
- We recommend that you briefly note down the settings you have tested when determining your grind size in order to achieve a good result more quickly.
ATTENTION: Do not operate the grinder in click levels 0-5, otherwise the grinder may wear out faster.
Why do we sell the Timemore Slim 3?
We like the evolution of the proven Slim Plus into the Slim 3. With very dark roasts or older beans and coffee from the supermarket, the Slim Plus's grind setting reached its limits. With the Slim 3, even the very fine grinds required for these types of roasts are no problem. The reason for this is the improved grinder.
As with all grinders with a click system, it's sometimes necessary to play around with the coffee quantity to achieve the exact brewing ratio. Alternatively, the click wheel can be set between two settings. This worked quickly in our tests and during daily use.
Overall, the Timemore Slim 3 is a very well-made hand grinder with a stylish design, a wide range of uses, and good value for money. Those looking for a more affordable alternative should take a closer look at the Timemore C3. If you don't feel like messing around with the coffee quantity, you should take a look at the Comandante C40 MK4 in combination with the Red Clicks extension.
What to do if there is static charge in the regrind container?
If static electricity builds up in the ground coffee container or if coffee grounds get stuck to the top of the grinder, we have a solution. After grinding, loosen the bean container just half a turn and tap it twice with your hand from below. The coffee will be released from the top of the grinder, leaving the grounds neatly in the container.
