Jairo Filter Coffee Special Edition - including invitation to the “Evolved Q Workshop”
In this two-hour online workshop, we'll explore the latest innovations in coffee evaluation. We'll focus on the new protocol, the Coffee Value Assessment (CVA), and walk through the form using a live cupping session. Together, we'll assess the new starting point. The coffee brief includes 250g.
We also discuss the Specialty Coffee Association's (SCA) takeover of the Q-Grader program and its consequences, the future role of the Coffee Quality Institute, and the resulting changes. What do these changes mean for us as Q-Graders and for other businesses along the value chain that deal with green coffee quality?

Online Workshop - Evolved Q
On April 24, 2025, the two coffee associations Specialty Coffee Associates (SCA) and the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) announced at the Expo in Houston that the SCA would be taking over the Q-Grader program. We'll try to put this into context, which caused so much furore and uproar in the industry. Effective October 1, 2025, the SCA will assume control of the Q-Grader program and thus the evaluation of coffee quality.
Over the course of two hours, we'll discuss the implications and consequences for the various stakeholders and taste a coffee together using the new form. Using a practical example, we'll discuss the Coffee Value Assessment and its associated advantages and disadvantages. These include:
-
How do I use the new form? (Use of Form)
-
What is the aim of the CVA?
-
What are the new features compared to the old score sheet?
-
How do I evaluate the individual attributes?
-
What do I need the four forms for?
-
How can I incorporate them into my everyday life?
-
What does the CVA tell me about the coffee?
-
How do I communicate with producers using the CVA?
-
Is there a score?
This online workshop is intended to provide orientation and context for the new certification. It is not an official SCA course. Those interested can find information on the Specialty Coffee Association website.
