Haptics & Structure:
- The Lid: Plastic. It feels secure in hand, which is important so it doesn't rattle due to vibrations during the grinding process.
- The Bellow: Robust silicone. It feels grippy and has just the right resistance to build up proper air pressure.
- The Fit: We put it on our Mignons. It fits perfectly on the entire series (Specialita, Manual, Classico, Silenzio, Design, XL etc.).
Technical Data:
- Material: Plastic (lid & base), silicone (bellow)
- Dimensions: approx. 79mm diameter, 107mm height (fits under almost any kitchen cabinet)
- Compatibility: Eureka Mignon series (Manual, Magnifico, Classico, Specialita, Perfetto, Design, Silenzio, Filter, Crono, Brew Pro, XL)
- Capacity: Ideal for single dosing portions (up to approx. 50-60g beans)
The Workflow:
How does it work in practice? You weigh your dose – let's say 18 grams for a double espresso – and pour it into the hopper. The grinder grinds empty. Normally, coffee grounds would now remain in the chute (the so-called retention).
Now comes the "Blow-Up" effect: You press the silicone bellow firmly a few times. The air blast actively expels the remaining coffee grounds from the grinding chamber.
Our Measurement:
- Standard Hopper: Often up to 2.5g retention (depending on roast and static charge).
- With Single Dose Bellow: We almost always achieve Input = Output. If we put in 18.0g, 17.9g to 18.0g ends up in the portafilter. This is a quantum leap for consistency in the cup.
Critical View: What you need to know
Is everything perfect? Not entirely. Since the heavy bean pressure from above is missing, the beans tend to "popcorn" more during grinding – meaning they jump around a bit wilder in the grinder. This changes the grinding noise and can extend the grinding time by a few seconds. But: The result in the cup absolutely justifies it. You get maximum freshness and can switch bean types at any time without waste.
Conclusion: Is the upgrade worth it?
Who is this for? If you pull 10 identical espressos in a row every day: Stick with the normal hopper. But for all home baristas who like to experiment, drink espresso in the morning and filter coffee in the afternoon, or simply don't want to throw away 3 grams of coffee first thing in the morning (to "purge"), this kit is a clear recommendation.
We have rarely seen an accessory that enhances a grinder so massively for such a fair price.
